The Ancient Astronauts – Into Bass and Time

Januar 26th, 2011

Whenever a musician creates something we might call a killer album, he has quite a tough job when it comes to the follow-up. And so did The Ancient Astronauts, one of Germany’s most talented and versatile producer duo for extra easy, slightly dope beats. Their debut album We Are To Answer simply kicked ass, an outstanding piece of music. Now they announced Into Bass And Time to be released soon on Eighteenth Street Lounge Music, the label of the Thievery Corporation guys: “Combining member Kabanjak’s love for Blues with Dogu’s passion for 90′s Hip Hop and Funk, ‘Into Bass and Time’ is a kaleidoscopic journey from old-school to modern. Enlisting the talents of a variety of heavy hitting MCs and vocalists, this new album demonstrates a quintessential progression from their debut.” But the two them dont leave it at this self-praise. No, they prove it to be true! Check out the title Around The World and even download it for free as an appetizer for this very promising release.

Lagartijeando – Cuando yo bailo tiembla la tierra

Januar 20th, 2011

“Shaman chant and charango guitar loops are the backbone of Lagartijeando‘s signature style. Native voices are the backbeat to percussion and bass tracks with organ melodies combining Cumbia and psychedelic noise. Songs give deference to ritual and maintain respect for tradition while pushing the old into a cosmic space future.”

Or, stated in my own words: A wild mixture of ancient South American folklore and modern budget sounds with a somewhat trashy edge, terrific in its humorously mad manner. Happy music at its best! Go and get this extraordinary mixtape at the French music blog Le-Gouter.

Reso

Januar 13th, 2011

What makes Reso so special for me is his ability to create a truly vast spectrum of emotions and moods within in his productions. Reaching from Drum’n'Bass to Breaks to Dubstep, it is sometimes war and destruction speaking from his music and then again peace and creation. This fascinating play between love, hate, affection and aggression is somehow even reminiscent of the cosmic dance of Shiva Nataraja… Just recently Reso re-launched his website and though the optical style is not my cup of tea, it is packed with interesting information about the producer and his work. For example that he gives away a free 3-track EP including a DJ mix as well as a welcome present if you decide to sign up his mailing list. This digital release represents the remarkable variety of Reso pretty well, including the bomb Beasts In The Basement in a VIP Mix, for instance. Also the mix is fantastic, representing a very friendly, easy and positive side of Dubstep and other Electronics.

Phaeleh – Bass Trap Mix

Januar 10th, 2011

Excellent Bass Music from one of my current favourite producers: Phaeleh delivers a great selection of straight and kicking yet very warm and dreamy tunes in his Bass Trap Mix.

La Gomera shots

Januar 2nd, 2011

My trip to La Gomera was amazing though I did not see any good waves for surfing over there. The rugged island is lush and green as it can be with a very tropical feeling along the beaches and in the deep valleys. Going up the steep mountains you will find a mystic forest with clouds of fog randomly falling down – just like from a smoke machine in a night club! It’s a very quiet and laid-back place, not too much going on, so definitely a recommendation for those looking for some nature experiences. Only Valle Gran Rey, the sweet little tourist village we stayed at, was definitely a little too German for my taste… Find some shots from this trip below, the urban sceneries were captured in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where we had a short stop-over. As frequent readers of this blog might recognize, the space ship architecture is by Santiago Calatrava.
