Over there at Cityclouds, dilligent blogger Lukas has published some Best Of 2009 music charts. Beside some other dudes with really interesting and good music taste, he also asked me for my top picks. Without claim to completeness, of course.
“Celebrated Flemish/Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui presents a brand new dance work inspired by the skill, strength and spirituality of Buddhist Shaolin monks. He has collaborated closely with Turner Prize-winning artist Antony Gormley, who has created a design consisting of 21 wooden boxes which are repositioned to create a striking, ever changing on-stage environment. Polish composer Szymon Brzóska has created a beautiful brand new score for piano, percussion and strings which is played live.” By chance I watched the entire show in television a few weeks ago, it is simply fantastic. If you get the chance to watch it on video or even live, go for it!

Just discovered this absolutely superb Dubstep mix by Von D – Turn up the volume for this wicked party stuff!
Kleinstadtkollektiv nennt sich das Manöver, wenn am letzten Abend dieses Jahres die zahlreichen Veranstaltercrews der Studentenstadt Lüneburg zusammen in der größten Location der Stadt eine rauschende Feier ins neue Jahr organisieren. Über die ganz besondere Partymentalität jenes Städtchens habe ich bereits an der einen oder anderen Stelle berichtet- und so ist es mir ein Vergnügen, mein erstes DJ Set im neuen Jahr eben dort zum besten zu geben und zwar auf der offiziellen Afterhour.
Nun surfe ich also wieder im Internet und nicht mehr in den Wellen des atlantischen Ozeans. Die vergangene Woche war für mich definitiv die beste des laufenden Jahres, und das mit Abstand. Nun gut, zwei weitere stehen ja noch an und mit ihnen ein paar viel versprechende Partys, aber es wird verdammt, verdammt schwierig, die großartigen Erlebnisse meines letzten Surftrips zu toppen. Im Folgenden findet sich ein Auszug meines Reisetagebuchs, welches ich beseelt von der Euphorie des jeweiligen Tages während der Abendstunden in die Tasten meines Smartphones gehauen habe.

I am off for a week full of Surf, Sol y Mariscos – what is pretty much what it is all about! So no blogging, no emailing, no status updates about the consitency of my crap in the morning. Basically, no digital devices at all. Well, expect My DSLR, I try to manage some shoots again though La Isla de la Muerte is actually just a huge rock surrounded by superb surf conditions…
Another excellent though way too short Dubstep mix by one of my very favorites at the moment. Did you know that Headhunter contributed a remix to the “Antix – The Remixes” compilation, released on the Danish Progressive Trance label Iboga two years ago? Well, this label always represented very high-quality releases but I really did not expect a Dubstep track.

Für Weihnachten wurde ich auf das Gelände des Kulturkosmos in Lärz eingeladen, wo die Mannschaft von Fortschritt3000 eine gemütliche Feier ausrichtet. Während es in der Tubebox durchgängig elektronische Tanzmusik typisch mecklenburger Zuschnitts zu hören gibt, ist in der Datscha ein abwechslungsreiches Bandprogramm vorgesehen. Es ist mir ein besonderes Vergnügen, im Rahmen desselben ein Funk-, Hip Hop- und Nu Jazz- DJ Set zum besten zu geben!
An exotic country, a big adventure, terrific surf and even a proper pinch of exententialism, everything captured in some pretty nice pictures- looks like a movie worth watching!
And here we go with another proof that good music does not necessarily have to cost money: Also the dudes behind the Ukrainian netlabel Deeplimit have read the writing on the wall and release their music under the Creative Commons Licencse, which means nothing else but it is available for free. With the Deep Swimming EP by Max Pollyul they present four excellent Dub Techno tracks, that really stay true to what the name of this release implies: Deep and dreamy soundscapes, lots of dubby elements and lazy but inspiring beat and bass structures. Perfect sound for a Sunday morning breakfast or a Sunday afternoon afterhour! The only shortcoming of this otherwise brilliant release is the fact that it is offered in 192 kbits MP3 format only. In times when digital storage expences approach zero more and more, at least a 320 kbit MP3 should be provided to enjoy the full potential of the music!
