Made a sweet discovery on the umtz umtz side of sound: Dense & Pika. A young duo from the UK that delivers an oldschoolish, heady, raw, acid-drenched take on Techno and House, obviously employing a whole lot of hardware during their liveact.

The ibero-american flavour of Deela’s latest work Ritmo De Las Calaveras perfectly complements the musical influences I embraced during the past years. As most of the track titles imply, the rhythms and sounds of Cumbia are dominant throughout the album. However, the German producer also known as Kabanjak or one of the Ancient Astronauts also employs quotes from Swing and Hip Hop. Fuelled by dope beats and heavyweight basses, it’s a very danceable mixture. Might work best with a tropical or subtropical UV index shining down on the head of the listener.

…Some Really Old Records is the agenda-setting name of this wonderful mix by Diplo. Lots of Psychedelic Rock, Funk, Soul and musical obscurities from some decades ago.

A young Russian band named I Am Waiting For You Last Summer combines Post Rock with Dubstep, Breaks, Drum’n'Bass and other electronic rhythms. A fascinating mixture that is sometimes reminiscent of Moderat’s self-titled debut album, but then again it has its very own character which is clearly that of a band. I’m stoked, hope these guys are touring Europe during the summer.

Spring has arrived and Guts delivers the perfect soundtrack, the Pura Mixtape number 6. Again it’s an extremely smooth variation of Dope Beats, instrumental Hip Hop, Funk, Reggae, and World Music. As always in the case of Guts I encourage you to donate a little money to the artist, as his work stands for timeless listening pleasure and he frequently gives away free tunes.
